Since 2008, Sun Young Lee has centered on time as its core theme.

Through each delicate line, I seek to embody moments of time and layers of emotion.

Just as countless small traces of time come together to form the great waves of a life,

I use an unfamiliar combination of a very fine brush, paint, and ink to express the invisible accumulation of time—layer upon layer—unfolding into the blossoming of life.

Each line represents a fleeting moment, shorter than a single second.

As these lines gather and overlap beyond count, they reveal the layered strata of life’s journey and its continual movement forward, expressed through a distinctly Korean palette enriched by the blending of ink.

Through the repeated processes of layering and wiping away paint and ink,

the work invites reflection on the memories and traces left behind by passing time.

Even within the endless flow of time,

I express our continual becoming—

the imprints of life that quietly seep in,

and the profound depth of existence as it grows and blooms with resilience.
